Daily Tweaks

a.k.a. Our Chiropractic Adjustment

Every day at 6:00 am, our Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) system instructs our Managed Service clients’ computers to perform a series of commands. We call this a Chiropractic Adjustment, and there’s no better way to start the day. During this 5-minute process, a script runs behind the scenes performing more than 200 tasks – from simple appearance changes, performance adjustments, and tweaks, to the more significant problem, fixes we’ve uncovered. That last part is what makes One Call Networks unique.

When we work on a customer’s issue, we bring over 60 years of combined IT experience, as well as super-sleuthing skills, to identify and resolve their issues. In many cases, the issue is unique to that user. But sometimes we come across issues/fixes that potentially could affect/benefit many other clients. First, we identify the problem and how to either correct or avoid it. Then we incorporate that fix into our daily Tweaks script so it gets applied to other clients’ systems during their next Chiropractic Adjustment. It takes a village, as they say, and we have a tremendous group of clients we support in this way.

That’s how we’re fighting a continuing battle on your behalf behind the scenes. Four years ago, when Ransomware first started to compromise corporate systems, we researched the issue to see exactly how it worked. The cybercriminals were using built-in components of Windows and were able to not only compromise client data but also attack the network as a whole. We immediately disabled as many of those components as we could for our clients without affecting their day-to-day work. And in doing so, we significantly insulated our clients from Ransomware criminal activity.

Sure, many other managed service providers (MSPs) focus on individual clients and their individual computers. But they don’t proactively apply their lessons learned across their entire client base as we do. If I were a skeptical person, I’d wonder if they would just rather have a lot of billable tickets and hours from fixing every issue as it arises on every machine instead of pre-empting them in one fell swoop. On the other hand, our philosophy is, “As much as we like our clients, we really don’t want to hear from them!” (And we know they have better things to do!)

So, our approach is a mix of caution and pro-action. Out of caution, we don’t generally install a Microsoft update for up to six months after release so others can deal with the inevitable bugs. But when we find a solid solution or a way to avoid a problem, Boom! – it’s deployed to your users the next day in the course of their Chiropractic Adjustment to ensure all of your computers are safe, secure, and stable.

And all while you’re having your first cup of coffee! Happy computing!
